Media outlet Buzzfeed disclosed the promotion of Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and Head of Litigation David Arroyo to chief legal officer and corporate secretary, effective Jan. 2, 2023.
Arroyo succeeds Rhonda Powell in the role. Powell will resign from her position to pursue other opportunities outside the company.
With more than 25 years of experience in news, cable television, digital publishing, and large law firm practice, Arroyo joined Buzzfeed in 2019. Previously, he served as senior vice president, global head of compliance at Discovery from 2018-19.
Before his time at Discovery, Arroyo spent 14 years at Scripps Networks Interactive as senior vice president, business and legal affairs and chief ethics and compliance officer from 2016-18; senior vice president, legal affairs and internal audit from 2014-16; senior vice president, legal affairs from 2012-14; vice president, legal affairs from 2007-12; and director, legal affairs from 2004-07.
Before joining Scripps Networks, he worked at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Kirkland & Ellis and served as a law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge James Carr.
