XL Group, a Dublin, Ireland-based global insurance and reinsurance company, has announced that Thompson Hutton is stepping down from its board of directors to start a new business focused on risk and insurance in renewable energy.

Hutton, who joined the insurer in January 2009, served as chair of the special committee on enterprise risk management. According to XL's Board Chairman, Robert Glauber, the company has decided to consolidate the oversight of the company's risk management responsibilities into the finance committee and rename such committee the "risk and finance committee."
