Chief Risk, Compliance Officers

Wong

Citigroup has named Cindy Armine chief compliance officer. Armine succeeds Martin Wong, who was appointed chief administrative officer and chief legal officer of the Asia Pacific region, based in Hong Kong. Armine, who has been with Citi for more than 28 years, most recently was chief compliance officer of Citi’s global wealth management unit.

Navistar International Corp. has named Bill Caton to the newly created post of chief risk officer at the $12.2 billion truck and engine maker. Caton was formerly chief financial officer and executive vice president of the company.

Cardif Pinnacle, a subsidiary of BNP Paribas Assurance Group, has announced the appointment of Ian Shackell as chief risk officer. Prior to joining Cardif Pinnacle, Shackell was director of finance and risk at EIS Insurance Solutions.

British fund manager Polar Capital Holdings has named Karim Vellani chief risk officer. Vellani was previously head of risk management for global property trading at Credit Suisse. He has also been chief risk officer at DE Capital Management, a British multi-strategy hedge fund shop.

Accounting Officers, Controllers

Laura Schack, senior vice president and controller of Pier 1 Imports, was recently appointed to the additional role of chief accounting officer. Schack, who has been with the Fort Worth, Texas-based company since 1999, assumes the role from Susan Barley, who has retired.

Alliance One International has announced the resignation of Thomas Reynolds as controller. Reynolds’ resignation comes days after the $2 billion tobacco distributor announced that it would be late filing its annual report for the third straight year, in addition to restating its earnings twice in the past 12 months. Reynolds will be replaced by Hampton Poole, the company’s current assistant controller.

Demarest

$1.2 billion Tidewater has promoted Craig Demarest to the role of chief accounting officer. Demarest, who joined Tidewater in May 2004, will also remain as vice president and controller. He assumes the new role from Joseph Bennett, who was promoted to executive vice president, in addition to his current role as chief investor relations officer.

Armstrong World Industries has appointed Stephen McNamara to vice president and controller. McNamara, who joined Armstrong in 1999, most recently was director of internal audit in corporate finance after serving as the company’s assistant controller.

$1.2 billion CH Energy Group appointed Kimberly Wright as chief accounting officer and controller. In addition, she will continue to serve as controller of its largest subsidiary, Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. Wright succeeds Donna Doyle, who will continue to serve CH Energy Group as a vice president.

On the Board

John Staley has been appointed to the boards of directors of $3.3 billion natural gas distributor Nicor and its principal subsidiary, Nicor Gas. He will also serve on the audit committees of both companies. Staley worked for the public accounting firm Ernst & Young for more than 35 years.

$2.4 billion Zale Corp., a jewelry retailer, has elected Yuval Braverman to its boards of directors. He was not assigned to any committees. Braverman is currently chairman and chief executive officer of diamond wholesaler J. & J. Zaidman, a company Braverman co-founded in 1981.

Massengill

$809 million chipmaker Conexant Systems has elected William Bendush and Matthew Massengill to its board of directors. Bendush, who was most recently senior vice president and chief financial officer at Applied Micro Circuits, will serve as audit committee chairman. Massengill, former chief executive officer of Western Digital Corp., will sit on the compensation and management development committees. Both members were elected to the governance and composition committee.

John Atkinson has joined Protiviti in the company’s Atlanta office as a director in the regulatory risk consulting practice. Previously, Atkinson served nearly 20 years as the assistant vice president in the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s Division of Supervision and Regulation.

Software firm FRSGlobal has announced the launch of its FinancialAnalytics solution in Asia-Pacific and Japan. The launch of FinancialAnalytics will enable banks in the region to standardize and consolidate their procedures while automating risk and regulatory reporting across multiple countries and entities.
