Glassman

Cynthia Glassman, who stepped down as a commissioner at the Securities and Exchange Commission last month, has been nominated by the Bush Administration to be undersecretary for economic affairs at the Commerce Department. A timetable for hearings and Senate confirmation is currently unclear.

Executive Moves

In Salt Lake City, Lance Sessions has resigned as acting corporate secretary and chief financial officer at Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. He will be replaced, still on an acting basis, by Paul Dailey, chief financial officer of Spitz Inc.

AirTran Airways has named Mark Osterberg chief accounting officer, a new position for the Orlando, Fla.-based airline. Prior to joining AirTran, Osterberg was chief accounting officer at the hotel chain LaQuinta Corp. and at Northwest Airlines.

Mower

Medical-equipment maker Iomed has promoted its chief accounting officer, Brian Mower, to chief financial officer. Mower has been with the Salt Lake City company since 1999.

Houston-based Whittier Energy Corp. has promoted Geoff Stone from controller to chief accounting officer. Also, the company announced the resignation of Chief Financial Officer Michael Young, who has taken the CFO job at an energy company in London.

Cooper Industries, a manufacturer of electrical equipment based in Houston, has named Kevin McDonald general counsel. He comes to Cooper from Anadarko Petroleum, where he was assistant general counsel, and replaces Diane Schumacher.

In Jeffersonville, Ind., American Commercial Lines has appointed Tamra Koshewa vice president and corporate controller. She comes to the shipping company from General Electric, where she was a financial manager in GE’s consumer division. She replaces Paul Brotzge, who is now ACL’s director of corporate strategy.

Scottish Re, a Bermuda-based insurer, has named Nathan Gemmiti general counsel. Gemmiti has been with Scottish Re since 2003 in several legal roles.

Kasi

The Associated Press has named Srinandan Kasi general counsel of the New York-based news cooperative. Kasi has worked at AP as deputy general counsel since 2004.

Motive, a provider of broadband management software, has named Jack Greenberg general counsel and Michael Fitzpatrick chief financial officer. Fitzpatrick replaces April Downing, who had been chief accounting officer at the Austin, Texas, company and held the CFO job on an interim basis. The general counsel’s job previously had been vacant. Motive is in the midst of restating financial results back to 2001.

On The Board

Luther Griffith has been elected to the board of directors at Theragenics Corp., a medical device company in Buford, Ga. He will serve on the company’s audit and governance committees. Griffith also chairs the audit committee at Lifecore Biomedical.

Ameritrans Capital Corp. has named Wesley Finch to its board of directors and audit committee, to bring itself back into compliance with Nasdaq listing requirements. The New York-based lending company had been out of compliance since last month.

In New York, Omrix Biopharmaceuticals has appointed Larry Ellberger to its board of directors and audit committee. Ellberger most recently was acting chief executive officer of PDI Inc.

Symyx Technologies, a chemical research company based in Santa Clara, Calif., has appointed Anthony Muller to its board of directors. Muller, formerly chief financial officer of JDS Uniphase, will chair the company’s audit committee. He replaces Martin Gerstel, who resigned in July for personal reasons.

In Downers Grove, Ill., FTD Group has appointed of William Chardavoyne to its board of directors and the flower company’s audit committee. Chardavoyne was most recently chief financial officer of video game maker Activision.

Aqua America has appointed two new directors to its board: Ellen Ruff, president of Duke Energy Carolinas, and Andrew Sordoni, former president and chairman of C-TEC Corp.. Sordoni will serve on the Bryn Mawr, Penn.-based water business’ audit committee, Ruff on its executive compensation committee.

IBM has incorporated new policy-management features into its Content Manager and CommonStore for Messaging products. The new software, from Orchestria Corp., allows companies to enforce policies on instant messages, email and other forms of electronic communication.

Pegasus Wireless, a maker of wireless communications software and systems, has selected software from MetricStream to help oversee its compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and ISO quality standards.
