Warburg Pincus, a global private equity firm, has appointed Robert Knauss as general counsel and managing director. He assumes these roles from Scott Arenare, who is leaving the firm to pursue a new business opportunity.

Knauss will oversee the firm's legal and regulatory matters and will join the firm's executive management group.

Prior to joining Warburg Pincus, Knauss was a corporate partner at the firm of Munger, Tolles & Olson, a firm he joined in 1981, where he focused primarily on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities and private equity.  Previously, Knauss served as a law clerk for Justice William Rehnquist of the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Honorable Walter Mansfield of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
