Airline company Virgin America has named John Varley as its senior vice president and general counsel. He succeeds Dave Pflieger, who left in April after six years with the company to become the CEO of Fiji-based Air Pacific.

Varley will join Virgin America in July and will serve as the airline's chief legal officer. In the role, he will also oversee the airline's government affairs program. Previously, he spent 22 years at Delta Air Lines, where he most recently served as vice president and deputy general counsel.
