Law firm Hogan Lovells have announced that Christopher Walsh and Mitchell Zamoff, former executive vice presidents and general counsel for UnitedHealth Group, have rejoined the firm. Walsh will serve as a member of the firm's corporate practice group, and Zamoff will serve in the firm's litigation, arbitration and employment practice group.

As co-leaders of UnitedHeatlh's legal department, Zamoff was primarily responsible for government and internal investigations, litigation, and compliance and regulatory matters, while Walsh was primarily responsible for Securities and Exchange Commission reporting, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, capital markets and employment.

In addition to his role as executive vice president and general counsel, Walsh also served as executive vice president and chief legal officer of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services businesses.  Previously, Walsh served as partner at Hogan Lovells (formerly Hogan & Hartson) from 2000 until 2007. During his time with the firm, Walsh practiced with the corporate, securities and finance group, focusing on private equity, mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions. Prior to Hogan & Hartson, he served as in-house counsel for a privately held technology company and a NASDAQ-listed company.

Prior to UnitedHealth, Zamoff served as partner at Hogan & Hartson, where he served as director of the litigation practice group and deputy chair of the white collar and government investigations group. He focused on government, internal investigations, high-stakes class action and other litigation primarily in the health and insurance sectors. From 1996 to 2000, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia.

At UnitedHealth Group, Zamoff also served as executive vice president and chief legal officer at UniteadHealthcare, the company's health benefits businesses.
