Shareholders of Tyson Foods have elected nine members to the company's board of directors, including six independent directors.

Those elected to the board include:

Chairman John Tyson, who served as chairman and CEO from 2001 until May 2006; as chairman, president, and CEO from 2000 to 2001; as chairman from 1998 to 2000, and in other executive capacities prior to 1998. Tyson has been a member of the board since 1984.

Don Tyson, retired senior chairman of the board, a role he held from 1995 until 2001. Tyson has been a member of the board since 1952.

Barbara Tyson, who served as vice president from 1988 until 2002. She has been a member of the board since 1988.

Lloyd Hackley, president and CEO of Lloyd V. Hackley and Associates, positions he's held since 1997. Hackley has been a member of the Board since 1992.

Jim Kever, founding partner of Voyent Partners, an investment partnership. Previously, Kever served as a director of Quintiles Transnational and had served as CEO of Envoy Corporation, a subsidiary of Quintiles. He has been a member of the board since 1999.

Kevin McNamara, executive vice president, CFO, and Treasurer of HealthSpring, positions he has held since 2005. He previously served as CFO of HCCA International, and as CEO and director of Private Business, Inc. McNamara has been a member of the Board since 2007.

Robert Thurber, former vice president of purchasing for Sysco Corporation and held various executive positions with Sysco from 1983 until he retired in 2007. He has been a member of the board since February 2009.

Brad Sauer, executive vice president of 3M Health Care Business. He has been with 3M since 1981 and currently is responsible for the company's worldwide healthcare business. He served in a variety of other positions including executive vice president of the Electro Communications Business, president and managing director of 3M Korea, and new business development director of the Commercial Graphics Division. He has been a member of the board since September 2008.

Albert Zapanta, president and CEO of the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce. Zapanta is chairman of the Reserve Forces Policy Board, an independent policy adviser to the Secretary of Defense. Zapanta has been a member of the board since 2004.
