Security solutions provider Symantec has appointed Mark Garfield as chief accounting officer, effective March 10. He reports to Chief Financial Officer Thomas Seifert.

Garfield brings extensive expertise in financial reporting, accounting and finance function integration, Sarbanes-Oxley process management and compliance, and financial due-diligence for all types of investments and acquisitions.

He joins Symantec from Brightstar Corporation, a global wireless and distribution services provider, where he was finance and chief accounting officer. At Brightstar, Garfield was responsible for implementing Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls, launching an enterprise-wide ERP and global shared services project, and creating its global internal control and technical accounting teams.

Prior to Brightstar, Garfield held senior-level positions with technology company Advanced Micro Devices; software company LoudCloud; and Ernst & Young.
