Susquehanna Bancshares, a financial services holding company with $18 billion in assets, has hired Kevin Burns to the newly-created role of chief risk officer.

In this role, Burns is responsible for enterprise risk management, corporate compliance, security, information security administration, business continuity, insurance risk management, community reinvestment, and credit review. He serves as a member of the company's executive management team, reporting to the risk committee of the board.

Susquehanna Chairman and Chief Executive Officer William Reuter said the company is expand the leadership team of its risk management group "in light of increasing demands and regulatory focus on the discipline of risk management."

With more than 18 years of experience, Burns worked most recently as director of governance, regulatory and risk management for Deloitte & Touche's national banking and securities practice. He has also worked in risk management for Bank of America; JPMorgan Chase & Company; and ABN AMRO/LaSalle Bank.
