In-house counsel salaries took a small step back in 2022, according to the latest analysis from executive search firm BarkerGilmore.
About 3,800 legal professionals were polled during the month of March as part of the 2023 In-House Counsel Compensation Report, with a mix of seniority levels and company size from the public and private sector across the United States.
The median total compensation across all industries fell 3 percent from 2021, a year in which a competitive jobs market was the rising tide that lifted all boats. Base compensation was stagnant, while long-term incentive compensation spiked 10 percent, the survey found. Bonuses, meanwhile, fell sharply—23 percent—from 2021.
