Hours before the Chamber adjourned for its summer recess, the Senate last night formally confirmed by unanimous consent the appointment of Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Jo White and U.S. Senate aides Michael Piwowar and Kara Stein as commissioners.

White, who has been serving as SEC chair of the SEC since April, will now continue as a Commissioner for a five-year term.

President Barack Obama nominated Piwowar and Stein in May, and they were approved by the Senate Banking Committee July 18.

Piwowar is chief Republican economist for the Senate Banking Committee. He replaces Republican Troy Paredes.

Stein is an aide to Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed, a senior member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. She replaces Elisse Walter as a Democratic appointee on the five-member, bipartisan commission.
