On its way out the door for the summer, the U.S. Senate made some SEC-related news yesterday when it confirmed Michael Piwowar and Kara M. Stein as members of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Senate also confirmed SEC Chair Mary Jo White for a full term that will extend until June 5, 2019.

Piwowar and Stein were not controversial choices, and the only real (if minor) drama was whether the Senate would confirm their nominations before it adjourned for its summer recess. Reuters reports that both nominees were confirmed unanimously. Piwowar and Stein join the SEC from the Senate, where both were staffers. Piwowar was the chief Republican economist for the Senate Banking Committee, and Stein was a top aide to Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island.

Stein replaces Elisse B. Walter. Walter has served as an SEC Commissioner since 2008, and she served as SEC Chair from December 2012 to April 2013. She also served as Acting Chairman in January 2009. Piwowar succeeds Troy A. Paredes on the Commission. Paredes has served as a Commissioner since 2008 after being appointed by President George W. Bush.
