The SEC is losing Lorin Reisner, its current deputy head of enforcement, to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. Bloomberg reports that U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara sent an e-mail to his staff today announcing Reisner's appointment as the new chief of the criminal division in the SDNY. Reisner will reportedly begin work in the U.S. Attorney's Office early next year following a routine background check.

In August 2009, Reisner left the law firm Debevoise & Plimpton to join the SEC's Division of Enforcement as Deputy Director. He previously served as an AUSA for the Southern District from 1990 to 1994. While at the SEC, Reisner handled several high-profile cases, including the SEC's settlement with Goldman Sachs Group in July 2010.

The SEC's current Enforcement Director, Robert Khuzami, and the head of the agency's New York Regional office, George Canellos, are both former prosecutors in the SDNY. Khuzami served as a prosecutor in the SDNY from 1991 to 2002, and was chief of its Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force from 1999 to 2002. Canellos served as a prosecutor in the SDNY from 1994 through 2002, and was Chief of its Major Crimes Unit.
