On January 3, 2014, the SEC announced that George S. Canellos, co-director of its Enforcement Division, would be leaving the agency that month but that he had "not yet made future career plans."  Today, Canellos' post-government plans were revealed, as law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy announced that Canellos will be joining the firm in mid-March as Global Head of the firm's Litigation Department.

Canellos served for at the SEC for over four years. He started with the agency in July 2009 as director of the New York Regional Office, was named Deputy Director of the Enforcement Division in April 2012, and became co-director of the Enforcement Division with Andrew Ceresney in April 2013.

Prior to joining the SEC, Canellos was a Milbank litigation partner from 2003-2009.  He also served earlier in his career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York. “After an extremely rewarding time spent in service to the SEC and law enforcement community, I could not be happier to be returning to my professional family at Milbank,” Canellos said.
