The SEC has named Jina L. Choi as the new Director of its San Francisco office. Choi joined the SEC in 2000, and has served as an Assistant Director since 2010.  As Director of the office, Choi will oversee enforcement and examinations in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest states of Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, and Alaska.

Choi was a member of the SEC's nationwide Market Abuse Unit, which focuses on insider trading and other complex manipulation schemes. She also previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Texas and as a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Choi follows Marc Fagel as head of the San Francisco office. In April 2013, Fagel left the agency after five years running that office to join the law firm Gibson Dunn.
