Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has deservedly received a great deal of praise for his office's perfect record in insider trading prosecutions during his tenure. The SDNY unit that heads up these types of prosecutions--the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force--was until recently led by co-chiefs Anjan Sahni and Marc P. Berger. Berger announced last week that he will be leaving government service to become a partner at law firm Ropes & Gray LLP, however, and today the SDNY confirmed that Katherine R. Goldstein has been appointed as the new co-chief of the unit.

The WSJ reports that Goldstein had been serving as Chief of the SDNY's general crimes unit. Goldstein joined the SDNY in 2004 after working as an associate at Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale and Dorr LLP. Among her notable cases is the prosecution and conviction of WorldCom founder Bernard Ebbers for accounting fraud.
