On June 20, Compliance Week and NAVEX Global presented an editorial roundtable at Grand Hotel Amrath in Amsterdam. The focus of the roundtable, which was moderated by Compliance Week Editor Matt Kelly, was on identifying and reducing third-party risks. Attendees' full biographies are below.

Hans Adriaans

VP and Head of Internal AuditNXP Semiconductors

 

Hans Adriaans currently works as vice president and chief internal auditor at NXP Semiconductors NV, a $4.4 billion USD Nasdaq-listed company with sales offices in approximately 25 countries and production facilities in Europe and a number of Asian countries. Since 2006, when the company was separated from Philips the company is controlled by a group of private equity companies. Adriaans spent 28 years in finance and accounting in Philips and NXP in various business controlling roles a.o. a BU of $1.5 billion USD revenue and the global sales organization. In addition Adriaans has experience as project manager in business improvement projects. In the 3 most recent years of his career Adriaans has used his broad knowledge of the semiconductor business and processes to introduce and deploy an enterprise risk management approach for NXP. He also changed the internal audit department toward a more risks-based approach with reports that add value to the business.

Sylvie Bleker-van Eyk

Chief Compliance and Risk OfficerBallast Nedam

 

Sylvie Bleker-van Eyk is chief compliance and risk officer for Ballast Nedam, with responsibility for implementing Ballast Nedam's tightened compliance and risk policy in order to guarantee the organization's integrity. She oversees the compliance policy for Ballast Nedam as a whole, focusing among other things on the implementation of the tightened compliance guidelines within a new management system. She also oversees the monitoring of observance of the compliance guidelines. Dr Sylvie C. Bleker-van Eyk is also program director of the Compliance & Integrity Management postgraduate program at VU University Amsterdam and as deputy chair of the Government Integrity Board (OIO).

Bob Conlin

Bob Conlin joined EthicsPoint to help lead the company's strategy to package and deliver market-leading risk awareness solutions that drive increased value for clients. In his former assignment as vice president of marketing at Accero, Conlin owned responsibility for marketing, business development, and product management. Prior to joining Accero, he served as the chief marketing officer at Centive, where he led the successful transformation of the company from enterprise software to a pure-play SaaS provider and created a new product category—On-Demand Sales Performance Management. Before Centive, he served as senior director, product planning and management at Infinium Software, a publicly traded ERP/HR/payroll software vendor. In this capacity, he led the product management and marketing teams in the development, launch, and ongoing marketing of Infinium's software solutions. Previous to Infinium, Conlin held senior-level sales and marketing positions at Cort Directions and Myriad/OrCom Systems.

Corbet business partners the globalized supply chain organization and the Unilever HR, workplace, and travel functions on contracting matters. Previously she worked as a legal counsel for Sara Lee and as a lawyer for one of the leading law firms in the Netherlands Nauta Dutilh.

Elena Fedotova

Elena Fedotova joined VimpelCom Russia legal department in 2005. In August 2006 she became chief compliance officer of VimpelCom Russia. In May 2012 she moved to VimpelCom headquarters in Amsterdam as the group compliance officer. She is responsible for implementation of the compliance program throughout the group, including Code of Conduct and internal compliance procedures, setting up compliance controls, coaching the local compliance officers, and administering the compliance helpline. VimpelCom is one of the world's largest integrated telecommunications services operators. It is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol (VIP). Prior to VimpelCom, Fedotova was as an associate in LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae.

Dan Kline

Dan Kline brings more than 14 years of experience in management consulting and business development in helping global organizations establish and evolve their compliance, ethics, and risk-management architecture. Previously, he served as managing director of CMS Cameron McKenna, Europe's largest law and tax firm, and at LRN, a leading online training and ethics and cultural consultancy company. While at LRN, he consulted with leading companies on how to best safeguard and enhance the reputations of companies—drafting policies, conducting risk assessments, designing internal communication strategies, setting up whistleblowing systems, and designing and delivering live and online training across a wide range of risk areas globally. Kline began his career at the Corporate Executive Board which included responsibilities of overseeing the supply chain and procurement consulting business in EMEA. A Fulbright Scholar, Kline spent time in Buenos Aires developing a new social and economic policy aimed at supporting Argentina's indigenous populations.

Cees Klumper

Chief Risk OfficerThe Global Fund

 

Cees Klumper joined The Global Fund in April 2012 to establish the risk function. Prior roles include managing director of internal audit at the GAVI Alliance, vice president internal control of a large multinational; partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers in its external audit practice; and partner with KPMG in its risk-management and internal audit advisory practice. Cees has also been CFO of a medium-sized retail company and corporate controller of a large scientific research institute. He was a member of the COSO Advisory Council for the update of the Internal Control - Integrated Framework that was published by COSO in May 2013. A native of the Netherlands, where he has spent most of his career, Cees also studied, lived, and worked in the Unites States, for ten years. He is a Dutch Chartered Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor. Throughout his career, Cees has been able to develop and apply theoretically sound concepts to achieve major improvements in internal control and risk management, under oftentimes very challenging conditions.

Tonnis Poppema

Tonnis Poppema is director of compliance for Hasbro. Hasbro Inc. is a worldwide leader in children's and family leisure time products and services with a rich portfolio of brands and entertainment properties that provides some of the highest quality and most recognizable play and recreational experiences in the world. Tonnis is responsible for the global roll-out of Hasbro's international compliance policy. He trains the entire global workforce on compliance issues, including but not limited to anti-trust compliance, anti-bribery compliance, and the corporate code of conduct. His main areas of focus are in the Far East (including the PRC), Latin America, and Eastern Europe (including Russia). He is based in Hasbro's international office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Prior to joining Hasbro, Tonnis has been legal and regulatory counsel of the GSM Association in London, U.K., the global trade association for the mobile phone industry.

Geert Vermeulen

Geert Vermeulen has recently been appointed as global head of compliance for Damco, the freight forwarding arm of the AP Moller-Maersk Group. Before that he used to be the chief compliance officer for Aon in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). Following inquiries from regulators Aon started its anti-corruption program in 2007. Vermeulen has coordinated this program in the EMEA region from the start. According to the U.S. and U.K. authorities, Aon developed a best-practice model other firms may wish to adopt. Vermeulen graduated as an economist some 20 years ago. Over the past 12 years he has been working on several compliance projects. At this moment Vermeulen is responsible for the compliance activities of Damco in some 90 countries, focusing mainly on anti-bribery and trade restrictions. Vermeulen is a board member at the Dutch Compliance Officer Association (VCO), a teacher at the Dutch Compliance Institute, and a frequent speaker at international compliance events.

Lucianne Verweij

Lucianne Verweij joined the Philips legal department in 2000. In 2002 she moved to the corporate sustainability office where she was responsible for, among other things, setting up the supplier sustainability program. In 2005 she joined the secretariat of the review committee general business principles, responsible for the development and deployment of a business ethics code of conduct and related implementation mechanisms, including monitoring of effectiveness. The secretariat performs the day-to-day management and coordination of issues of a business ethics nature. Royal Philips is a diversified health and well-being company, focused on meaningful innovation in the areas of healthcare, consumer lifestyle, and lighting. Headquartered in the Netherlands, Philips employs approximately 118,000 employees with sales and services in more than 100 countries. Prior to joining Royal Philips, Verweij was active as a legal counsel at British Telecom and Fokker Space.
