President Donald Trump has issued an executive order to dismantle the artificial intelligence (AI) laws of California, Colorado and three other states with comprehensive laws, saying that their “excessive” state regulation is getting in the way of American competitiveness.

State AI laws are “burdensome,” according to the “Ensuring a National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence” executive order (EO), issued Thursday. Any states with AI laws deemed “onerous” to American innovation will be cut off from certain federal funding, the EO said.
