$2.5 billion Protective Life has appointed Edward Berko to the newly created position of executive vice president and chief risk officer, effective Aug. 17. He will report to CEO John Johns.

Berko most recently served as managing director and chief risk officer for MetLife's Investments Department. Prior to joining MetLife, Berko served in a variety of positions as a senior executive at a number of financial services, management consulting, and technology companies that develop, implement, advise on, and use risk-management systems and solutions.
