Penn National Gaming, an owner and operator of gaming and racing facilities with a focus on slot machine entertainment, has promoted Carl Sottosanti has been to the position of senior vice president and general counsel, effective Feb. 1. He will succeed Jordan Savitch, who has served as general counsel since 2002.

Sottosanti, who brings 25 years of legal and business experience to his new role, previously served since 2003 as deputy general counsel and vice president of legal and business affairs. In this capacity, he had significant responsibility for development opportunities, mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions, corporate governance matters and labor and employment matters.

In his new role, Sottosanti will oversee all of the company's legal and regulatory affairs. He will report directly to Chief Executive Officer Timothy Wilmott.

Prior to joining Penn National, Sottosanti also held legal roles at banking software provider Sanchez Computer Associates, and telecommunications holding company Salient 3 Communications. He began his legal career as an associate with the Philadelphia law firm Schnader Harrison.
