Last week, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board announced a new forum aimed at small businesses and accounting firms with fewer than 20 issuer clients.

The Forum on Auditing in the Small Business Environment is a two-day program at which attendees will learn more about the work of the Board—specifically the PCAOB inspections process and the impact of new auditing standards.

According to the PCAOB, the goal of the format is “to ensure that there is ample opportunity for discussion of PCAOB issues facing small business communities between representatives of this sector and Board member and its staff.”

Only small accounting firms and audit committee members from small public companies will be invited to attend the program, which kicks off Nov. 30 in Costa Mesa, Calif. Board member Kayla Gillan will serve as host, and staff from the offices of inspections and standards-setting will be in attendance.

The forum will repeat in 2005 in nine locations: northern California, Texas, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Florida and Massachusetts.

Attendees can earn continuing professional education credits. Schedule, details, and contact information is available from the box at right.
