Nomura Holdings, based in Tokyo, Japan, has appointed David Benson to the newly created position of vice chairman of risk and regulatory affairs.

In this role, Benson attains responsibility for the regulatory and government agenda and for providing strategic advice about risk management strategy to senior management.

Benson has been Nomura's chief risk officer since 2008. That role will now be assumed by Lewis O'Donald, a former senior risk officer of sales and trading for Morgan Stanley.

Since joining Nomura over a decade ago, Benson has held a number of positions, including European chief operating officer. He will retain his role as a director of Nomura Europe Holdings, Nomura International and Nomura Capital Markets.
