Nextpoint, a provider of cloud-based regulatory, compliance and litigation products, announced the release of a public application programming interface (API) into its web and social media archiving service, Cloud Preservation. Delivering new tools to allow for real-time archival of individual pages, Cloud Preservation's API provides highly customized control over preservation of any web source.

The public API can be accessed through either a browser-based bookmarklet, or programmatically, allowing web development teams to design and deploy their own archival policies and offering deep application integration capabilities.

Building on its release of real-time Twitter capture in April 2011, Cloud Preservation's public API allows users to quickly and easily archive any distinct Internet page or social media object from a web browser with the click of a mouse. Critical for compliance purposes, this latest functionality allows users to preserve changes across all of their web properties as they happen. While scheduled crawls of entire URLs and their associated content continue at user-defined intervals, the public API allows for a more advanced level of customized capture and archiving.
