News Corporation announced on June 8 that Senior Executive Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence Jacobs, is leaving “to pursue new opportunities."

Jacobs joined News Corporation in 1996 as senior vice president and deputy general counsel. In 2004, he was named senior executive vice president and group general counsel of News Corporation, and appointed to the seven-member Office of the Chairman.

His departure comes at a time when News Corporation is still dealing with the repercussions of an investigation in Britain into a phone-hacking operation in which employees of News Corporation-owned subsidiary newspapers hacked the phones of celebrities and politicians, resulting in millions of dollars in settlements.

A successor has not been named yet.
