News Corp. will take a major step in the ongoing restructuring of its compliance function by naming five group compliance officers to oversee various business units.

News of the plan was first reported Sunday by the Financial Times with an official News Corp announcement expected soon.

In August, still reeling from a phone hacking scandal and the related shuttering of its infamous News of the World newspaper in the U.K., News Corp. announced changes to its compliance structure in a memo to employees. General Counsel Gerson Zweifach was named as chief compliance officer with associate general counsel Lisa Fleischman assuming the duties of deputy compliance officer.

The company also announced plans to divide its various operating units report among five compliance groups, each headed by a group compliance officer reporting to Zweifach. They include: a Los Angeles cable and broadcast group; a Los Angeles film and TV production group; a group for Europe and Asia; a group for Australia; and a New York news and information group.

John McCoy, previously associate regional director for the SEC's Los Angeles based enforcement division, will be group chief compliance officer for the film and TV production group. Brian Michael, a former federal prosecutor in New York and Los Angeles, takes on that same role for the cable and broadcast group.

Lisa Fleischman, in addition to her current role, will be the group chief compliance officer for New York's news and information group (which includes Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal). Candy Lawson, previously anti-corruption counsel for Morgan Stanley, will head compliance efforts in Europe and Asia. Keith Wood will head the Australian compliance group in addition to his current role as director of internal audit and risk for that unit.
