A partnership of organizations committed to ending modern-day slavery launched a new Website dedicated to promoting greater transparency and dialogue around issues of slavery in global supply chains.

KnowTheChain.org was developed to educate companies, investors, policymakers, and consumers about the existence of slavery in supply chains and to encourage greater disclosure related to the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act (SB-657).

As Compliance Week previously reported, the law went into effect in January 2012 and requires that every retailer and manufacturer that operates in California with annual worldwide sales of more than $100 million must disclose what efforts they are making (if any) toward eradicating slavery and human trafficking from their direct supply chains.

Companies can now verify their compliance status with the California law, and see where their company peers and competitors stand, by visiting KnowTheChain.org
