The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has appointed Vedat Akgiray as chairman of the IOSCO Emerging Markets Committee. He assumes the role from Guillermo Larrain, former chairman of the Superintendencia de Valores y Seguros of Chile.

Akgiray is chairman of the Capital Markets Board of Turkey, a role he assumed in March 2009. Prior to this appointment, he held several posts as a professor of finance at a number of universities in both Turkey and the United States. In his new role, he will be supported by Zarinah Anwar, chairman of the Securities Commission of Malaysia, who will continue as vice chairman.
