Independent global energy company Marathon Oil has promoted Sylvia Kerrigan from vice president to executive vice president, in addition to serving in her current roles as general counsel and secretary, effective as of Oct. 31.

Kerrigan joined Marathon Oil in 1995 and was appointed vice president and general counsel in September 2009 and secretary in November 2009. Prior to that, she served as assistant general counsel for litigation, human resources and environmental law.

In addition to her duties at Marathon Oil, Kerrigan served as senior legal officer and team leader at the United Nations Security Council's Commission d'Indemnisation in Geneva, Switzerland for two years. She was responsible for arbitrating the losses sustained by international energy companies following Iraq's 1990 invasion of Kuwait.

Earlier in her career, Kerrigan was in private practice, counseling energy, construction, manufacturing and transportation clients.
