$2.2 billion life-science company Sigma-Aldrich has named George Miller senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary. He succeeds Rich Keffer, who was named Sigma-Aldrich's general counsel in 2006.

In his new role, Miller will join the company's executive management team and manage its legal services and corporate governance processes. He will report to Chairman, President and Chief Executive Jai Nagarkatti.

Miller brings to Sigma-Aldrich twenty years of corporate legal experience from large global public companies in the chemical and transportation industries. Prior to joining Sigma-Aldrich, Miller worked as general counsel at Novartis and, formerly, managing director and regional counsel for Federal Express in its Tokyo office.

In other news, the company has elected George Church to its board of directors. Church pioneered technology innovations early in the development of key fields in Chemistry and Biomedicine with over 10 U.S. patents granted and several pending.
