American Electric Power has named Sandra Williams as chief compliance officer, responsible for designing, implementing and administering AEP's ethics and compliance programs.

Williams joined AEP in 2000 to support its telecommunications affiliates. Later that year, she was named senior counsel of regulatory services, representing AEP's operating companies before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. She was named director of ethics and compliance in 2006.

Williams will assume her new role from John Keane, who is retiring June 30. Keane has served as chief compliance officer, general counsel, and secretary since 2004, and executive vice president since 2008.

Assuming Keane's other roles as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary will be D. Michael Miller. Effective July 1, Miller will have responsibility for corporate legal affairs and supervision of AEP's legal department. Miller joined AEP in 1995 as chief counsel of fuel supply. He was named chief counsel of power generation and litigation in 1996 and deputy general counsel in 2002.
