The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., has appointed Michael Bradfield as general counsel. In this capacity, he will lead the FDIC's legal division, which handles legal work on regulatory issues, FDIC transactions, litigation, and corporate and commercial claims.

Bradfield joins the FDIC from the law firm Jones Day, where he focused on domestic and international banking, mergers and acquisitions, federal bank regulatory matters, and international trade.

His appointment to the FDIC comes at a time when the agency seeks to expand its responsibilities in helping to alleviate the current financial crisis, a key focus discussed during the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs May 6 hearing.
