Johns Hopkins University has appointed Mark Rotenberg, currently chief legal officer of the University of Minnesota, as vice president and general counsel, effective June 3.

Rotenberg has served as chief legal officer for the University of Minnesota for more than 20 years under four presidents and 11 Board of Regents chairs. In a news release, the University of Minnesota said that Rotenberg “leaves a broad legacy…including extraordinary litigation successes,” recovering more than $580 million, “among the highest recovery rates of any university counsel office in the United States.” He also saved the university millions of dollars by implementing measures to substantially reduce litigation and by handling the overwhelming majority of litigated matters in-house, the news release stated.

The university also credited Rotenberg with building “one of the nation's most successful athletic compliance offices, which has enabled the University to have a spotless record of no major NCAA infractions in any sport for more than a decade.”
