$3.3 billion Ingersoll-Rand, a multi-brand commercial products manufacturer, has appointed Robert Katz as senior vice president and general counsel, effective Nov. 1. He will succeed Patricia Nachtigal, who is retiring in late December after 31 years with the company.

Katz joins Ingersoll Rand from Federal-Mogul Corporation, where he served for four years as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Prior to joining Federal-Mogul, Katz was general counsel and regional compliance officer for Delphi Corporation's Europe, Middle East and Africa operations, headquartered in Paris.

From 1996 to 1998, Katz served as assistant general counsel for General Motors (Europe), at its European headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. As a member of the General Motors legal staff serving all European operations, Katz focused on transactions and investments in Eastern Europe. He began his career as an associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy from 1986 to 1995 where he worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions and General Corporate Group, both in New York and London.
