Illumina, a provider of life science tools and integrated systems, has appointed Charles Dadswell as senior vice president and general counsel.

Dadswell assumes all functional responsibilities previously held by Christian Cabou, who has retired. He also will have global responsibility for all legal and intellectual property matters, as well as serving as secretary to the board of directors.

Dadswell joins Illumina with more than 20 years of legal experience at healthcare-focused technology companies. Most recently, he served as vice president and general counsel for North and Latin America and corporate director of global intellectual property at biotechnology company bioMerieux. In this role, he was responsible for global intellectual property matters and legal matters in North and Latin America.

Prior to bioMerieux, he served as general counsel of specialty pharmaceutical company BioDelivery Sciences International and also oversaw U.S. intellectual property in variety of positions at healthcare companies Glaxo, GlaxoWellcome and GlaxoSmithKline.
