Usually the most "exciting" bit of promotion you see out of lawyers practicing in the SEC enforcement area is to author a client memo or article breaking down some new development. In the video below, however, WilmerHale's Jonathan Shapiro does a great job of taking an article he had recently written in the San Francisco Daily Journal (“SEC likely to ramp-up private equity scrutiny") and turning the key points into a very interesting and slick video interview. 

Is the use of such a video effective? Well, put it this way. I still haven't read the article but I watched the entire video, learned something from it, and came away impressed with the whole effort. Beyond its substantive information, the video has music, drums, animation, interesting camera work, and a surprisingly lively (given the subject matter) discussion by Shapiro of an important topic. 

I bet we'll start to see more of this type of "thought leadership" from lawyers in the future. To watch it, click on the image below, which will take you to the video.
