Green Mountain Coffee Roasters has appointed Stephen Gibbs to the newly created position of vice president and chief accounting officer. He will report to Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, Frances Rathke.

The company said it established the position to strengthen its accounting function and overall financial control environment. Gibbs will provide strategic leadership for the accounting operations, including financial reporting, accounting, tax, financial systems, policies and controls. The move follows recent concern over the company's accounting practices after it disclosed an error in its K-Cup reporting to the Securities Exchange Commission in September 2010.

Gibbs, who held key finance posts at public companies for 15 years, most recently served as vice president, chief accounting officer, and corporate controller of Scientific Games Corporation, where he was responsible for all aspects of accounting and reporting for domestic and international operations. Prior to that, he managed accounting research at The Coca-Cola Company.
