Wireless charging technology company WiTricity Corp. announced Joe Benz, general counsel and chief legal officer, was promoted to chief executive officer.

Benz will assume the CEO role and join the board immediately. He succeeds Alex Gruzen, who has been the WiTricity CEO since 2014.

Earlier, Benz served as chief intellectual property counsel and senior director at Boeing. He also served as chief IP counsel for the Ford Motor Company and president and chief operating officer of Ford Global Technologies.
