The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced the appointment of Lesley Slaton Brown as chief diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) officer, effective Feb. 1.

Slaton Brown will report to Kyle Cavanaugh, NBA president of administration.

In her role, Slaton Brown will be responsible for driving ongoing DEI efforts for the NBA and its teams. She will work with the league’s chief people officer and diversity and inclusion leaders to implement and advance DEI processes, including the recruitment and retention of diverse talent, the development and enhancement of employee resource programs, and setting and assessing metrics for success.

She joins the NBA from HP, where she has served as vice president and chief diversity officer since 2015. At HP, Slaton Brown developed the company’s 10-year DEI and racial equality and social justice strategy.

Previously, Slaton Brown served as a consultant and co-founded Curated Pathways to Innovation, a personalized learning platform focused on increasing the number of women and people of color in technology and other industries.
