The Goldman Sachs Group, a global investment banking, securities and investment management firm, announced the retirement of John Bryan as lead director and chair of the corporate governance and nominating committee. Bryan has been a director and a member of each of the standing committees of the board since November 1999.

Assuming Bryan's position is James Schiro, who has served as a director since May 2009 and as audit committee chair since September 2010. Previously, he served as chief executive officer at Zurich Financial services and as CEO at PwC.

Michele Burns, director since October 2011, will assume Schiro's responsibilities as chair of the audit committee. Burns currently serves as executive director and CEO of the Retirement Policy Center, formed by parent company Marsh and McLennan Companies. Previously, she served as chairman and CEO at Mercer, a subsidiary of Marsh and McLennan Companies.
