Following its emergence from bankruptcy, General Motors on July 23 appointed five new members to its board of directors, as well as a new corporate secretary.

The new members include Daniel Akerson, a managing director at The Carlyle Group; David Bonderman, co-founding partner at TPG; Robert Krebs, former chairman and CEO of Burlington Northern Santa Fe; Patricia Russo, former CEO at Alcatel-Lucent; and Carol Stephenson, Dean at the University of Western Ontario and a former CEO of Lucent Technologies.

The full board includes 10 representatives nominated by the Treasury Department, one nominated by the Canadian government, and one nominated by the Auto Workers Retiree Medical Benefits Trust. GM President and CEO Fritz Henderson also sits on the board, chaired by AT&T CEO Edward Whitacre.

On the same day that GM appointed its board members, Anne Larin was also named to the position of corporate secretary. Since joining the company in 1990, Larin has served in numerous roles, most recently as lead attorney for SEC reporting and secretary to the audit committee.

The board's first meeting is scheduled for July 27.
