The SEC announced today that George S. Canellos has been been named Deputy Director of the Division of Enforcement. Canellos is currently Director of the SEC's New York Regional Office. Canellos fills the Deputy Director position vacated in early 2012 when Lorin Reisner left the SEC to become the chief of the criminal division in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.

Canellos has served as Director of the New York Regional Office since July 2009, overseeing a professional staff of over 400 people. He previously was a prosecutor in the SDNY for nine years, where he served in positions including Chief of the Major Crimes Unit,  Senior Trial Counsel of the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force, and Deputy Chief Appellate Attorney.

The SEC stated that Canellos will begin serving as Deputy Director on June 4, 2012, at which time Andrew Calamari will become Acting Director of the New York Regional Office.  Calamari is currently Senior Associate Regional Director and co-head of Enforcement for the New York Regional Office.
