$182 billion General Electric has promoted Hendrik Bourgeois to the role of European general counsel, effective as of this month. He replaces Mark Elborne, who will take on a new non-legal role as national executive for Northern Europe, dealing with strategic issues for the company.

Bourgeois, who has been with GE for 10 years, previously spent six years as senior counsel for competition, regulation, and government relations. In his new role, Bourgeois will oversee the company’s long-running review of its European legal panels. The review, which was initiated by Elborne, will set up a series of practice-specific panels, including preferred suppliers for litigation and regulation work.
