The Futures Industry Association, a trade organization for the futures, options and OTC (over the counter) cleared derivatives markets, has appointed Allison Lurton as senior vice president and deputy general counsel, effective Jan. 14.

She will be responsible for advising the FIA on regulatory matters and help develop FIA policy as a part of the association's senior management. She will report to General Counsel Barbara Wierzynski.

Lurton joins FIA from law firm Covington & Burling, where she served as of counsel and advised financial institutions, energy firms and pension funds on the regulatory reforms as a result of the Dodd-Frank Act and Consumer Protection Act.

Prior to that, she served for seven years at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, as chief trial attorney in the enforcement division and counsel to the CFTC commissioners on a wide range of CFTC policy and regulatory matters.
