Freddie Mac has appointed William McDavid as general counsel, corporate secretary and executive vice president, effective July 16. He assumes this position from Alicia Myara, who has served as interim general counsel since November 2011. He also will serve on the company's management committee.

He served as co-general counsel from 2004 to 2006 at JP Morgan. During his time here, he oversaw various legal functions, including mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property matters, securities and disclosure issues and bank regulatory matters.

McDavid began his career as an associate in corporate practice at law firm Debevoise & Plimpton in 1972. He also served as associate general counsel at Bankers Trust Company from 1981 to 1988, including two years in London as head of its European legal division.
