DLA Piper announced that Luis Mejia has joined the firm’s securities enforcement and litigation practices as a partner in the Washington, D.C. office. Mejia formerly served as chief litigation counsel for the SEC's Division of Enforcement, where he supervised the Commission’s nationwide litigation program and assisted in planning and directing the SEC’s enforcement efforts.

At the SEC, Mejia managed a 50-person litigation group in Washington, D.C., and assisted with the supervision of 75 trial attorneys in the regional offices of the SEC. He has a successful track record managing the SEC’s nationwide litigation program, including an 80 percent winning record in federal district court litigation. Prior to joining the SEC in 1999, he was a partner at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, where he served as trial counsel in a number of significant matters.
