The law firm of McDermott Will & Emery has announced that Deanna Newcomb will be joining the Energy & Derivatives Markets Practice Group in the firm’s Houston office on Aug. 25, as an energy and derivatives markets analyst.

With more than 17 years of experience in senior compliance and finance roles at several leading energy and energy-trading companies, Newcomb will advise clients in connection with energy and commodity trading regulatory compliance matters, government investigations, and regulatory audits. In addition, Newcomb will help conduct internal investigations for clients that have been subpoenaed by or asked to produce information to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, particularly in investigations of alleged market manipulation and false price reporting. She also will assist in representing clients in FERC and North American Electric Reliability Corporation audits.

Newcomb previously served as first vice president, compliance, for Bank of America/Merrill Lynch Commodities. In that capacity, she headed all aspects of the compliance program involving U.S. commodities and global crude oil and products, interfacing regularly with both the FERC and the CFTC. She also has substantial experience in wholesale energy market risk control.
