FINRA, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, reportedly has a new question it likes to ask the broker-dealers it regulates: How do you vet your cleaning crews?

According to an article in Investment News, three broker-dealers recently told Accounting and Compliance International that they had been asked this very question. One consultant at ACI speculated that FINRA was inspired to ask the question because "Charlie Sheen dressed up as a cleaning person to get insider information in the movie 'Wall Street.'"

FINRA spokeman Herb Perrone says that FINRA has not told examiners to ask specifically about cleaning crews, but added that some examiners might have "found something they don’t like about the way outside services were being vetted.”
