Van OordtThornton

Nokia director Robert van Oordt, the former CEO of one of Europe's leading property management firms, has reached the board's mandatory retirement age of 68. As a result, the former chief of Rodamco Europe will not stand for re-election at the Finland-based company's annual meeting in March. Nokia's corporate governance and nomination committee has proposed that all other eight directors be re-elected for a term of one year.

According to Nokia, the board is recommending that van Oordt be replaced by John Thornton, the former president and co-COO of the Goldman Sachs Group. Thornton, who is currently professor and director of global leadership at Tsinghua University in Beijing, is already a director at Ford, Intel, British Sky Broadcasting, and Pacific Century Group.
