Valentine

Debra Valentine, a partner in the Washington, D.C., law office of O'Melveny & Meyers, was recently named vice president, corporate secretary and associate general counsel for $28 billion United Technologies. Valentine specializes in antitrust and international competition, and is expected to be heavily involved in UTC's acquisition growth strategy.

Valentine's 13-year tenure at O'Melveny & Meyers was interrupted after a decade when she served as the first female general counsel for the Federal Trade Commission. At the FTC, she was involved in a number of significant merger investigations and enforcement actions during the country's largest merger wave, including AOL-Time Warner, BPAmoco-Arco, Exxon-Mobil, Staples-Office Depot, and Boeing-McDonnell Douglas. She will report to UTC senior vice president and general counsel William Trachsel effective Jan. 12.
